Wedding Wear

As I mentioned earlier, I LOVED the ensemble I wore to last weekend’s wedding. I was running short on time to find something amazing that I looked & felt good in so I turned to my BFF – ZARA. The first pass through the dress section turned up nada so I moved on to shoes. I found these sparklers {clearly made for dancing} & immediately added them to my cart. Then I made my way back to the dresses. They’ve been hit or miss lately with sizing so I ordered a variety of options in hopes that something would work with glittery, studded heels. I was also kind of in love with this pink dress but I wouldn’t allow myself to get too attached before trying it on. Everything arrived 2 days later & I tore into the boxes like a kid on Christmas morning. I said a quiet prayer to the fashion gods, sucked in & slipped on the dress and shoes.  By some miracle, it fit. Weeks of painful cardio, squats-till-you-drop & strict WW point calculating had paid off.

And then I started to worry that it looked too much like a prom dress. This was a southern wedding & much of the night would be spent outdoors surrounded by A LOT of seersucker. It’s easy to dress something up but near impossible to dress something down without the aid of flats & a denim jacket & neither were gonna happen. I grabbed this sheer grey space-dyed scarf * & said another prayer. It sounds strange but it worked! I finished things off with some dangles & a super fun clutch from Anthropologie.

I had the best time that night & for once in a long while, I felt pretty.

A Southern Wedding

We spent last weekend in Mobile celebrating the wedding of one of our dearest friends & his adorable bride. B & I arrived on Thursday to get in a little extra R&R. We’ve both been really busy lately so it was nice to unwind & enjoy each other’s company before the festivities began. There were multiple trips to Callaghan’s for beer & smoked tuna dip, pool-side lounging  & shuffleboard at a neat little place that served up fun drinks. Friday was spent lunching with Mobile friends, feeding fresh boiled peanuts to the squirrels in Bienville Square & more pool time with out-of-towners. The rehearsal dinner was laid back enough that we got to spend even more time catching up with everyone. We were SO excited to visit with friends we don’t see often. After staying up way too late, B let me sleep in. We grabbed the last bagels from a nearby coffee shop & went our separate ways. I spent the rest of the day with Kelly {above} gabbing about life & nursing our sore feet until time to get ready for the big night.

I knew the wedding was going to be stellar through Adrienne’s creativity & attention to detail. The ceremony was held in a beautiful cathedral in downtown. Since both of our guys were groomsmen, Kelly and I sat together, oohing & ahhing over everything – particularly the bride’s cathedral-length veil which was hand-sewn by her mother. The guys joined us at the reception which featured a second-line band during cocktails, grilled oysters & beignet fries so good I had to question if this was real life. The highlight of the night was jamming to the reception band. We danced the night away to Prince, MJ & old faves. I was really digging my outfit – especially my fancy shoes – but as usual, I forgot to get a snap except for the wind-blown one above. Le sigh.

It was a magical weekend & I keep finding myself recalling fun moments. I’m sure B is tired of hearing “remember when _____ ” followed by a fit of giggles.

Congratulations, Lewis and Adrienne!

Hey, That’s My Jam!

Despite the variety of controversy that seems to follow Lana Del Rey, you’ve got to admit she nailed this one.  It’s beautiful, dark and as mesmerizing as any Fitzgerald love story.

We decided last minute to cancel our canoe trip and instead spent the weekend lazing about, shopping for an upcoming trip and finalizing new kitchen plans. After Saturday’s date night turned into an appliance research project, B treated me to a late lunch and Gatsby on Sunday. If you haven’t seen it yet, get yourself to a theater ASAP. It’s gorgeous. Maybe not as good as the original – is it ever? – but a definite theater must-see. And worth the splurge in 3D. While the overall soundtrack is great, I loved how this pretty number seemed to float in and out throughout the entire film. Baz is a genius.

Dear Mother

Happy Mother’s Day to the all the mamas out there. Especially to mine ’cause Lord knows, I’m a handful. To my own mother, thank you for keeping me afloat, reminding me to always have a backup plan, listening to my worry-filled rambles and helping me navigate the crazy.

I love you.

It’s May! And thanks to an abundance of April showers, we’ve got May flowers! Everything seems to be in bloom – from the roses in our yard to every summer fashion must-have list. I think I’ll celebrate by picking up a fresh bunch on my drive home!

It’s gonna be a great May!
